It has been announced that Technology Minerals PLC (LSE:TM1) 48%-owned subsidiary, Recyclus, has now completed their project, which they have been working on. This project involved recycling fire-damaged lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery packs that came from an electric vehicle original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
Once gathered, these batteries were processed at Recyclus’ Wolverhampton facility and this involved a system of dismantling and recycling compromised batteries. All of the batteries submitted to this process had been affected by a thermal event.
Not only is this a significant achievement for the battery recycling industry, but it is also the third new customer Recyclus has gained within January. On top of this, the company has also had agreements with two major automotive companies, as well as a leading online retailer.
The company stated that, ‘Delivery of this project has highlighted Recyclus’ capabilities in safely handling, transporting, and processing damaged Li-ion batteries at an industrial scale.’
Technology Minerals chair and Recyclus director, Robin Brundle, commented, “It has been an exciting start to 2025, with this contract marking the second automotive customer agreement announced this month, in addition to our agreement with a leading online retailer. The selection of our Li-ion battery recycling solutions by such high-calibre organisations demonstrates the growing demand and recognition of our pioneering technology. It is a strong validation of Recyclus’ ability to address the challenges of recycling end-of-life Li-ion batteries and, in this case, offering what we believe is a unique UK solution for extracting value from fire-damaged batteries that might otherwise end up in landfill.”
