Improving battery recycling collection

Call2Recycle and RLG have begun a collaboration focusing on advancing battery collection safety. The collaboration will use RLG’s LiSa box to address the increasing challenges affecting the recycling sector and to enhance safety.

LiSa boxes will be brought into Call2Recycle’s vast collection network, and it will offer a safe, scalable storage and transportation solution for end-of-life, recalled, defective, or damaged lithium-ion batteries to industries which are collecting and using large amounts of lithium-ion batteries and electronics. A circular take-back service, LiSa+, is also provided by RLG, which offers battery and electronics collection to suit customer needs.

The requirement for safe and convenient recycling options increases as the use of battery-powered devices rises. Currently, Call2Recycle provides a range of safety solutions through its extensive network, and this reduces the risk of thermal incidents during the recycling process. Adding the LiSa box will further enhance the safety around the collection and handling of these batteries.

Les Griffith, Senior Director Business Development, RLG Americas, commented, “Our global impact amounts to an average of over 79,000 tonnes of batteries collected each year. Through our partnership with Call2Recycle, we look forward to expanding our services in the North American market, ensuring the safe return of critical raw materials back into supply chains, conserving materials, and providing growth through sustainable, circular solutions.”

Joseph Chung, Vice President Account Management at Call2Recycle, mentioned, “Call2Recycle is committed to staying at the forefront of innovations that promote safer end-of-life battery management and recycling. From provincial governments and battery producers to collectors and organizations offering unique, safe recycling solutions, we are proud to work alongside these partners to expand and improve battery recycling in Canada — and we’re excited to add RLG to that distinguished list.”
